The ‘EcoTeams’ concept?
‘EcoTeams’ is a tried and tested programme from Global Action Plan that we using to help local people become greener at home. The programme is independently certified, UN endorsed, and set to deliver tangible environmental, social and financial benefits!
This is an initiative for those wanting to reduce their impact on the environment, reduce household costs, and achieve something significant together. Small groups of like minded people are connected and supported through positive lifestyle changes. To take part in our Eco Teams project you must live in the borough of Richmond upon Thames and also not live in Ham or Petersham. There we have a different project running, the Energise Ham and Petersham project and if you live outside of Richmond upon Thames, contact Global Action Plan who run training events all over the UK.
A household taking part typically:
- improves energy and water management, reducing CO2 emissions by 16.6%
- reduces bills by £170 a year
- reduce waste by 20%, while increasing the proportion of rubbish that is recycled
- reduces water used by 15%
How it works
Ideally an EcoTeam is a group of householders (usually 6-8) who get together once a month over a 5-6 month period to follow a step-by-step process of manageable actions on rubbish and shopping, household energy, water and travel. However, the training is open to people who are interested in undertaking the project in just their household.
Team members measure their household’s environmental impact, share their experiences and agree together on practical lasting change. All the information needed to do this will be provided, along with an online profile facility to enter data and see how well you and your team are doing!
After 6 months, your team will be presented with its results, and a United Nations Environment Programme certificate. Time to celebrate!
