In 1997 local residents in Kew formed the Westerly Ware Association and helped to transform their small public park close to Kew Bridge from a vandalised area with poor children’s play equipment and substandard tennis courts into a pleasant space for all to enjoy. The Association tries to maintain high standards by raising funds for various projects and employing a part time gardener to help tidy and prune. The committee keep in regular touch with Richmond Council’s Parks Department who have overall responsibility for Westerly Ware.

To celebrate our tenth year in 2007 we successfully raised funds from the Council’s Initiative Fund to install new entrance gates.  These were specially designed and forged by local blacksmith Shelley Thomas from the Brentford Steam Museum. Our latest project, still in working progress, is helping local groups such as the Kew Society to upgrade Kew Pier which borders the Ware. A new lectern will be installed shortly designed by the Association.

If you enjoy visiting Westerly Ware, you may like to join the Association. We are especially interested in encouraging more parents of young children who regularly use the play area and also our many dog walkers to join. The subscription is £5 per year.  Our members receive regular newsletters and are encouraged to suggest new ideas on how to  improve the park.
