Building Responsibly Group
[after achieveing a large aspect of the group's aim, the group is currently taking a break]
Aim - to promote greater understanding of sustainable buildings by those commissioning and undertaking the work.
The Group has initiated several projects, some in co-operation with Richmond upon Thames Council and Richmond upon Thames College. Two conferences have been held, a Sustainable Design Award established, a Sustainability Checklist for completion by developers submitting planning applications, and the “Green Design Register”. The Green Design Register is a list of designers and suppliers operating in the Richmond area, who can affirm their commitment to sustainable development, and demonstrate their ability and experience in the design of buildings or the supply of construction services or materials, in line with sustainability principles.
The Group was set up in 1994 following the Rio Earth Conference and originally was a special interest group of the Richmond upon Thames Local Agenda 21 (LA21) Group to focus on the built environment. In 2007 The Richmond upon Thames LA21 Group merged with Richmond Environment Network and the Building Responsibly Group continues to implement understanding of sustainable buildings by those commissioning and undertaking the work.
